Off To The Races

POSTED ON LIVEJOURNAL ON: January 29, 2011 @ 02:21am

Last Saturday, I attended my first ever mouse race. I'd never heard of such a thing until then. My middle sister's son is on a baseball team and the coaches & other adult team people were hosting a fund raiser. There was a huge group of us that went & it turned out to be a lot of fun. We didn't know what to expect. My sister ended up going to the grocery store to get some snacks for our table since all the other tables had brought some for their respective tables. The place was serving free beer & free soda, so that was awesome. It took a while for everybody to get settled, but once we all were, they started the races. They put 6 mice on this board thing that was stood up on a table. When the announcer guy counted down to 3, the "gates" were lifted & the mice had to eat little treat things all the way to the finish line. The way people were shouting, you'd think it was a horse race.

In between each race they did "rodent roulette" which meant that they put the winning mouse in a cup in the middle of a roulette wheel & spun it. When it stopped, they took the cup away and whichever slot the mouse ran to was the winner. Each slot had a state written in it. At the end of all 6 of the races, they took the winning mice & raced them against each other. The overall winner was a mouse named Bubbles. Hehe. It was cute.

After the races were over, they did raffles. I ended up winning 2 of them. I won a door prize, which was a $25 gift card to the Grappa Grill. I don't think I've eaten there before, but my oldest sister has & she said the food is good. Guess we'll see when we go there. The other raffle prize I won was a wicker basket full of snack food (2 cans of peanuts, 2 boxes of popcorn, 1 bag of tortilla chips, 1 6 pack of Pepsi) and 4 dvds ("He's Just Not That Into You", "Shrek The Third", "Valentines Day", & "Blazing Saddles").

All throughout the night, my sister's husband kept bringing literally fistfuls of drinks over to our table. My oldest sister & her friend that had come with us ended up getting pretty buzzed. I only had half a beer cause I don't like the taste of alcohol. Blech! I drank Dr. Peppers & Cokes instead. Overall the night was super fun. I can't wait for trivial night!
